As the credit crisis worsens, even top credit scorers are being frozen out of the auto financing market. Car buyers are being forced into bigger down payments and even all-cash deals, and dealerships are struggling to find financing on their vehicle inventories. Vehicle sales dropped 26.6% in September, and October sales are predicted to be worse.
Smart Car Going Electric; Look for it in US Late 2009
Smart car is going electric. The Daimler AG division is testing 100 ED versions of the fortwo models in London and plans to test additional cars in Berlin before bringing the car to the U.S. in late 2009. The ED is expected to travel 150 miles on a single charge. The new electric Smart model is just one of a number of technologies being developed by Daimler in a effort to meet U.S. fuel economy standards and European CO2 rules.

Wall Street's problems are now hitting Main Street, especially on car lots. Experts say the tightening credit isn't across the board. Loans are available but not always for the most desirable vehicles. On the other side, consumers appear to be holding on to their money as fear continues to grip the market.
